Legend has it that Joe Conner (the future Uke Boy Slim) invited John Crouch (the future Ty Dy Ed) over to play at Mark Ropke’s (the one and only Dick Lilly) place. The three played with their sometime bass player John Mitchell (Train Whisle). They played every Thursday night, working on and writing new songs. They played out under the name of “Uke Boy Slim and the Lucky Stiffs”. I believe Dick Lilly mentioned, well someone found out that there were a number of bands similar to “Uke Boy Slim….” So, that ended that.
They played out as Mark and Friends, These Guys, what ever…
So Rob Reisinger invites them to play at the Ma Shine Benefit “Hard Time’s Reunion”. We agreed to play of course and had a new bass player Dave Cary, a very good player. Anyway it come down to we had to have a name by the next morning (Friday) or we wouldn’t be included in the promotion. We could still play, just miss out on that.
Sits Thursday night band practice. We had been trying to come up with a name for weeks.
Somehow “Shoulder People” fell out of the air.
We all loved it, I drew the first Should People logo and were were Shoulder People. Unfortuately Dave didn’t last long. We were lucky enough to get Paul Liscome (Larry Lucifer) on bass. Larry later passed away and will always be remembered and missed.
Now Should People have a new bass player, Ken Sikora (Sac) who was reunited with Ed after many years and has jumped in fearlessly on bass. So we welcome Sac as our new muscle in the shoulder.
Ty Dy Ed 1/8/24 as he remembers.
